Wood Ridge Assisted Living Community is a small licensed assisted living community in South Bend, Indiana. This community is home to about 65 residents, many of whom have physical challenges or some dementia. Residents are very active - they love to play bingo, watch movies, and go on outings.
Chris Bayne, Life Enrichment Director at Wood Ridge, nominated the Wood Ridge for a Telikin Touch computer. She wrote that a Telikin Touch would help our residents take a huge leap forward in connecting with their families and the outside world, regardless of vision, small muscle control or other physical condition. She also saw the benefits of playing games for the residents: The memory game will be entertaining, therapeutic and give our seniors a real sense of accomplishment. With easy access to the news and the internet, Chris hopes that Telikin will help the already vibrant seniors stay current with news, politics, and health information.
We are very excited for the residents of the Wood Ridge community, and we are also very thankful to Chris for nominating them.

Mt. San Antonio GardensThe Mt. San Antonio Gardens is a non-profit Life Care senior community in Pomona, California. When nominating the Gardens for our Telikin Cares program, Cathy Swan, the daughter of a former resident, shared with us how most of the residents understand that a computer provides a great way to stay in touch with friends and family. She also recognized, however, that the personal computers on the market have not been built for use by senior citizens who find it difficult to manipulate a mouse due to arthritic fingers, see the text on a page clearly because the factory default was set at 11 point, understand the technical language for streaming a movie, or remember the steps that have to be taken to access and organize E-mail.
Residents at the Gardens are very active in providing services for their peers. The computer room is maintained on a volunteer basis by residents who also provide instruction on the computers. Cathy nominated The Gardens to receive a Telikin because she saw how easily volunteers could teach other how to use the Telikin.
We hope the entire community at The Gardens enjoys their new Telikin!
